At We Are Tennis, we run something most clubs talk about but rarely manage to deliver—a dual pathway that develops both performance players and beginners, side by side. While many clubs focus only on Red, Orange, Green (ROG)/Hot Shots, we run that alongside a performance stream (Foundation, Junior, and Senior Squads). Here's why our pathways work and why it gives young players a genuine advantage
1. No More “Holding Back” Talented Kids
One of the biggest criticisms of traditional ROG systems is that talented kids get stuck for too long.
Our structure fixes that:
- The top 6–8-year-olds move straight into green/yellow-ball Foundation Squad.
- They can still play hotshots competitions for variety and confidence.
- But their main training focuses on full-court movement, spacing, timing, and proper contact-point discipline.
This mirrors what leading academies in Spain, France, and Canada quietly do behind the scenes—early exposure to “real tennis,” not years spent in modified formats.
2. More Complete, Balanced Skill Development
Entry level ROG match play often creates a heavy forehand bias and limited tactical variety.

By ages 9–10, our players are already:

3. Kids Naturally Find the Right Path—Without Pressure
We separate groups by skill and learning rate, not ROG labels.
- Foundation Squad: development-focused
- Hot Shots: fun and participation-focused
This creates a healthier environment for both faster and slower learners and avoids labelling young kids as “elite” too early.
4. A Stronger Pathway Into Junior & Senior Squads
Most clubs struggle to create real performance players because traditional level based coaching produces:
- Solid contact
- Solid rallying
…but weak full-court movement, spacing, and tactical awareness.
Because our players start yellow ball earlier, they arrive in:
- Junior Squad (UTR 1–2 / 2–4)
- Senior Squad (UTR 4–10 / 10–12)

Very few clubs run two pathways at once – most simply follow the manual and wonder why they don’t produce strong teenage players.
We’re doing what Tennis Canada, Spain, and France do… but earlier, clearer, and more intentionally.
